Our Story
The Stylish Hound was founded by Shirley to bring grooming and thoughtfully chosen dog products together under one welcoming roof in the heart of the Cotswolds. What began as her small grooming service has grown into a trusted destination known for calm professionalism, quality and a genuine love of dogs.
From the start, Shirley wanted to create a space where every dog could feel comfortable and well cared for, while offering pet parents reliable advice and products selected with purpose. As the business evolved, so did its commitment to supporting British makers, including a partnership with a talented local leatherworker who creates a range of handcrafted collars and leads for the shop.
Today, The Stylish Hound has become a valued part of Stow-on-the-Wold — a place where grooming expertise meets a curated retail experience, shaped by experience, community spirit and a deep love of dogs.

About Shirley
Shirley’s journey began in childhood, growing up with standard poodles and developing a deep appreciation for the care and attention dogs require. That early connection was later strengthened by Jessie, her beloved Labradoodle of sixteen years, whose gentle nature and regular grooming needs inspired Shirley’s passion for professional canine care. Together, these experiences shaped the foundations of what would become The Stylish Hound.
Over time, that passion has grown into a welcoming space where expert grooming sits alongside a carefully curated collection of high-quality products. Shirley takes great pride in offering thoughtful, professional care, ensuring every dog feels comfortable and well looked after throughout their visit.
At home, she is kept in line by her two dogs: Betty, her miniature poodle who is very much the household diva, and Alma, her rescue Galgo (Spanish greyhound) who is quirky, affectionate, fun-loving and just a little feral! They continue the legacy of inspiration that Jessie began, shaping the heart and spirit behind The Stylish Hound.

About Chloe
Chloe’s love for dogs began early, growing up side-by-side with her family Labrador, Chester. Although she wasn’t always sure what career she wanted to pursue, her passion for dogs was unmistakable to everyone around her.
Now a qualified groomer, Chloe has been working at The Stylish Hound for the past four years. She has a particular soft spot for grooming schnauzers, especially their bold expressions and famously “angry” brows.
In 2023, Chloe brought home her Fox Red Labrador, Ronnie. No one could have predicted that his bright, beaming smile would quickly make him a beloved mascot at Stylish Hound. Dedicated and empathetic, Chloe is passionate about providing every dog with a calm, gentle grooming experience—treating each one with the same care and affection she gives her own.

About Deanna
Deanna is a Level 2 qualified dog groomer whose love for dogs began in childhood, growing up with family pets that taught her compassion and patience. Her journey into grooming was inspired by her Cavapoo, Hudson, whose grooming needs encouraged her to learn more and ultimately sparked her passion for the profession.
She adores meeting dogs of all personalities and is dedicated to making every groom a positive, gentle, and enjoyable experience. At home, she spends her time with Hudson and her gorgeous Hungarian Vizsla, Beau—two constant reminders of why she loves what she does.

About Carolle
Carolle has had a role in the boutique for nearly three years, as the first friendly face that welcomes clients, customers and their lovely dogs that visit The Stylish Hound.
She has a wealth of experience from customer service roles in hospitality, retail and creative industries.
Carolle is the proud owner of two dogs. A sofa-loving Hungarian Vizsla called Beau, also very partial to a cushion to rest his head. A Cavapoo called Hudson who’s favourite treat is the milky froth off a cappuccino.
She has always had a love of dogs, and other pets, both as a child and throughout her adult life. One of the joys working with dogs is to meet all the different breeds and their quirky personalities.

About Karen
Karen moved to the Cotswolds in March 2024 and within a month, to her delight, she was working at The Stylish Hound.
Combining her love of dogs and her vast experience in retail and customer service, Karen enjoys being the first point of contact face to face or by phone, striving to provide welcoming, friendly and knowledgeable service to both dogs and their humans. It is lovely to meet so many different breeds of dog and to hear funny and sometimes emotional stories about them from their owners.
Karen and her children were very lucky to have Orla an Irish terrier for 14 years of wonderful fun and adventures, and so on moving to Stow it was time to get another dog, once again an Irish terrier and so she has Margo. Margo can often be found behind the desk in the shop and is (sometimes ) a useful assistant if customers need to size collars or coats, she often gets a stroke from customers who are visiting having left their dogs far away at home. It is a pleasure to help our customers a gift that will be taken home to a much loved dog somewhere around the world or closer to home in the Cotswolds.

How we work
At The Stylish Hound, every dog is treated as an individual. We take the time to understand their coat, their quirks and their specific grooming needs, tailoring the products and techniques we use to give each dog the most appropriate and comfortable experience. It’s a philosophy built on kind, considered grooming shaped around each dog’s individual needs, ensuring they receive care that truly suits them.
Our product choices are always guided by what best suits the dog in front of us, from sensitive skin formulations to shampoos designed to refresh greasy coats, and coat-specific treatments that support good skin and coat health. The grooming techniques we use are equally varied and considered, whether that’s hand-stripping a Border Terrier, de-shedding a Labrador or fluff-drying and styling a Cockapoo so their coat sits beautifully.
We also adapt our handling to support each dog’s behaviour thoughtfully and respectfully. Some dogs need a slower pace, some need reassurance and some simply require a confident, steady approach. Our aim is always to help each dog feel as at ease as possible while receiving the care they need.
Continuous learning is an important part of our ethos. We attend seminars, refresh our canine first aid training and stay up to date with evolving industry standards, ensuring our knowledge and skills remain current. At the heart of our work is a commitment to choosing the methods, products and pace that best support each dog’s individual needs, so they leave looking and feeling their best.
